I use Comodo Personal Firewall, and was wondering what ports if any do I need to set to allow cFosSpeed access through the firewall.

i just left the XP firewall to defaults. as long as the tracert and ping utilities work, there is no problem.

what do you actually intent to do? cFos/cFosSpeed needs only ICMPs.

@devon: you have to apply 2 rules in the network monitor, one for echo requests, one for echo reply.
look here (http://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,2784.msg22449.html#msg22449), i wrote how to apply it.

You should apply an application monitor rule for SPD.exe, too. This cares for cfossped's ability to initiate dns-queries.

let us know if it has worked so we can close this thread.

@martin: dat stimmt leider so nich ganz - nur ICMP reicht nich aus, sonst geht's mit CPF nich! im gegensatz zu den anderen spielereien ist cpf (fast) ne richtige firewall.

immer gern, you're welcome.

one question remains: where does cfosspeed ping at? only to www.cfos.de? or are there other adresses needed?

so that would mean:
one inbound rule to allow icmp from www.cfos.de to the client (echo request -> ping from cfos to client)
one outbound rule to allow icmp from client to www.cfos.de (echo reply - answer of the ping)

problem is, you are visible to others if one allows ALL icmp traffic.

beside that, i used spd pingstat to prove traffix shaping is working, and everything seems to work fine (1 and 2 are almost the same value).

by default it pings to www.cfos.de, however with a TTL of about 2. that means the ping is returned at hop 2. you can also set it to another destination. the ping destination determines what cFosSpeed consideres as route to the internet.

thx martin, that helps out a lot!

but how can i get cfosspeed to ping to another destination? i didnt realize that the user (also ich) can set a different ping destination.

mainly this will be of interest for the users outside germany, not??

in cfosspeed.ini, section [param] you can set the key
ping_dest=...

however pings never reach the destination. they live only for 1 or 2 hops, ie. they are already returned by your broadband pop of your provider.
